I go to local thrift stores (primarily non-profit) and usually bring home a large quantity of department store and designer clothing and shoes by spending only $30-$45 and a few hours looking for fashion items to be worn with my existing wardrobe.

The goal is to is to inform women of the fashion affordability of shopping at thrift stores, the benefit of donating, and how these organizations help disadvantaged, recovering and abused men, women and children.

The newest addition to my dress wardrobe

I bought this French terry dress from Avon.com on sale for $17.99. I can see myself wearing it with black tights and booties now, and bare-legged with a cute wedge mule or ballerina shoe in the Spring.

I love the zip pockets!

Outfit of the Week 7.26.15

This week's outfit is a combo of retail and thrift store purchases.

The sweater, shoes and necklace are thrift store finds. The black and cream tank top is a Target clearance find. The tan skirt is a Walmart find, and the purse was a hotel gift-shop find when I was in Houston Texas.

Many liked my outfit when I wore it to work. Most of the comments were about my Kenneth Cole shoes.

Outfit of the week 7.12.15

This week's outfit is almost all retail - except the bag and shoes. The jacket and crop pants are part of a five-piece interchangeable set (two jackets, two skirts and crop pant) that I bought from Sears several years ago. It's my best retail purchase ever! The camouflage tank was from Walmart. The bag was bought last year from Lovelady and the shoes were a recent purchase from Mission Possible.

I'm obsessed with camouflage!

Outfit of the week 6.28.15

This outfit have a retro 1970s feel of which I'm a big fan. The only thrift store find is the red ponte pull-on pant, the rest of this outfit were retail purchases from years ago.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the shoes. I broke one and decided not to take them the the Shoe Doctor to have it repaired. I've had those shoes for almost a decade and it was time to say goodbye.

The angle of the stripe on this top gives me an hour-glass shape.

Outfit of the week 6.21.15

This entire outfit is are retail purchases. The jacket is from the Gap, skirt Lane Bryant, top Avon, kitten heels Chinese Laundry and the purse was a free gift with perfume purchase - but was a perfect match with the shoes. The necklace is from my mom's 1970s jewelry collection. Actually, I have several pieces of her "hippie" jewelry.

The pop of color with the shoes and bag gives this outfit a spring look.

Outfit of the Week 6.9.15

This week's outfit is a mix of thrift store and retail purchases.

The George blue knit blazer is a Walmart clearance item. The sandals I recently purchased from Payless Shoes, the green skirt and Vera Wang print tank are thrift store purchases and the green purse was from a garage sale several years ago.

Every time I wear this skirt and/or the purse, I receive compliments.  Nice and "Springy"!

Outfit of the week 3.1.15

Most of this week's outfit is from my last thrift store find.

The heirloom sweater and ponte knit pant are from the Foundry. The high-low tank is a recent online purchase and both pairs of shoes are retail purchases. I couldn't make up my mind which pair of shoes would go best - so I picked both.

The flats with this outfit is so retro (think Mary Tyler Moore on the Dick Van Dyke show)

Outfit of the week 2.22.15

This week's outfit is mostly old clothes along with a thrift find.

The poly knit black a-line skirt with the white chevron stitching and the sleeveless mock sweater and the red pat-leather pump were old staples from my closet. I really should get rid of them - but somehow it never dawn on me to do so.

The red wool sweater jacket was a great thrift store find. I thought it was the best find of 2015 until I went shopping yesterday. The large black bag was actually given to me by a co-worker who died recently. I will always cherish it.

This is a great winter-to-spring transition outfit.

Outfit of the week 2.15.15

This week's outfit is a combo of retail, online and thrift store finds.

The black kitten heels is a retail purchase from two years ago. The red, sleeveless, wool turtleneck and black, wide leg, cuff pants are thrift store finds. The bell sleeve herringbone coat with faux fur was a Groupon purchase.

The entire outfit costed me about $100! The coat was about $60, and the shoes $30. The sweater and pants was probably $5.00 or less each.

This week's outfit is half retail and half thrift store.

The Women With Control leopard skirt is from QVC. The tan suede booties and the brown long-sleeve tee are thrift store finds. The faux leather jacket was a 2014 leather store outlet find.

Tights are a must-wear for a winter look! A brown pair are tucked in the booties.

Outfit of the week 1.4.15

This heather grey Kathy Ireland wrap dress is a 1990's throwback (her fashion line with Kmart dissolved back in the mid-'90s.) It's a 2014 thrift store find - but a timeless dress design (a' la Diane von Furstenburg).

The black, faux-sued lace-up shoe are Isabel Toledo for Payless Shoes. Isabel Toledo became world-famous when she designed a lemongrass yellow wool lace shift dress with a matching overcoat that FLOTUS wore at the first inauguration of President Obama. I've also read that Mrs. Obama has been a long-time fan of her work since 2008 and buys Toledo's designs from Ikram Goldman's in Chicago.

The heather grey tights with the chevron design are from Walmart.

The grey tights will provide a different look from my usual black tights.

Outfit of the week 12.29.14 - Holiday Edition

This outfit is great for ringing in the new year!

The red knotted dress and the black moto jacket are from Avon. The black mesh lace-up pumps are Isabel Toledo from Payless Shoes, and the Missy K skull clutch was a Christmas present to myself from Amazon.

This outfit is a combination of sexy and bad-ass!

I only paid $16.75 for this purse. I love it!

Outfit of the week 12.21.14

This weeks outfit is half thrift store find mixed with a couple of old pieces from my closet.

The skirt and the Joan Rivers Classics Collection red crew-neck top is a thrift store find. The black boots and double-breasted swing jacket are pieces I've had for (probably too) many years. I would wear my signature black tights with this outfit.

After I took this picture, I realized that the necklace may be a bit much.

Outfit of the week 12.7.14

This week's outfit is one of my favorites.

The leather jacket and the print top with black leather trim in the front are retail clearance items I bought last year. The boots and pants are thrift store finds.

This fall season I find myself "back in black."

Outfit of the week 11.30.14

This week's outfit is high-end, low-end, thrift store and a bit of illusion...

My taupe corduroy button-front dress is a 2013 thrift store find, and the "shootie" is from Payless Shoes.

The Dooney & Bourke purse is authentic - but I didn't buy it - I earned it! It was my award pick for 15 years of service at my place of employment (and that was three years ago).

The illusion part of this outfit is the turtle neck under the dress...it's actually a dickie (something you don't hear people wearing often). Wearing a dickie provides a layered look without the bulk. I own another one that resembles a white button-down shirt. It works well with V-neck sweaters (again without the bulk).

A turtle neck (real or fake) paired with the black tights under this dress is a chic fall look.
