Dress for the best version of yourself.

Springing forth with sandals and scarves...

A couple weeks ago two things happened to me - I went to Walmart and walked by the scarves and saw a spring selection of two-fer eternity scarves. I received a coupon from Payless Shoes for 15% off any purchase. So what did I do - I made a couple purchases!

Walmart - $4.97 for both (enough said)!

Don't think they will last beyond the spring summer season due to the workmanship, but for the price-it's ok.

Thrift Store Find 3.14.15

Lovelady had a half-price sale on all clothes and shoes last week. My friend Mia and I always look forward to this sale because they have it twice a year, and it gives us a chance to catch up. Well, I can say we really caught up because we got to Lovelady around 9AM and I got home at 9PM.

We went to several thrift stores around town looking for those pieces that spoke to us. The funny thing was that we found pieces for each other more than ourselves. Also, we had lunch and dinner between all the shopping.

I spent around $70 on all my finds...

I love this (QVC) Susan Graver jacket for myself, but instead I gave it to my mom.

I got this Old Navy wool coat for $6.99!. The red hat is for a rodeo-themed party I'm going to in April.

I love all those shoes - but the Nine West peep toes - too cute!

The maxi dress was more of an impulse buy, however I like it. It's red, it's denim and it's a (QVC) Denim & Co. coat for $6.99!

The graphic sweater has sequins and beads on the front (I love shiny things). The green rain coat is exactly what I've been looking for - so glad I found it at half off. I'm obsessed with camouflage clothing (I own several pieces).

Mia said that I also have an obsession with argyle. I really didn't need it - but it was red, argyle and Liz Claiborne - I couldn't resist it. The purse caught my eye for it's geometrics and colors.

Love this shift dress! It zips down the front and have pockets. The sweater is Mohair and apparently originally bought overseas (the care tag is not in English, so I hand-washed it and let air-dry)

This is an outfit! The print tee is Daisy Fuentes.

This jacket is Bob Mackie (designer of Carol Burnett and Cher in the '70s). I'm not sure if this is his couture or from his QVC line.

 

Outfit of the week 3.22.15

The skirt is the only thrift store find. the rest are retail purchases. The leather blazer and the faux suede pumps paired with this skirt makes a great Spring transitional outfit.

Necklace and bodysuit are from Avon. The shoes are Jaclyn Smith (Kmart).

This entire outfit is a thrift store find from 2014. The brass leaf necklace was a gift.

Outfit of the week 3.1.15

Most of this week's outfit is from my last thrift store find.

The heirloom sweater and ponte knit pant are from the Foundry. The high-low tank is a recent online purchase and both pairs of shoes are retail purchases. I couldn't make up my mind which pair of shoes would go best - so I picked both.

The flats with this outfit is so retro (think Mary Tyler Moore on the Dick Van Dyke show)

Oh what a Harlem Night!

I was invited to a "Harlem Nights" party on Saturday. For those who do not know what that is - it's a themed party based on the movie Harlem Nights that starred Eddie Murphy, Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, among other notable African-American actors and actresses. The movie was based on the 1920's Harlem Renaissance (funny movie - Google it!).

I knew it wasn't going to be easy to find a dress for my current figure (which I'm not too proud of) - but I made an online catalog search and found the perfect dress on K.Jordan.com - so I ordered two sizes and paid $30 for express mail to get this dress on time for the party.

The dress was beautiful - yet disappointing. My normal size was too snug and short for my taste (a bit above the knee), but the size up was three inches longer - yet a bit too roomy in the bust (had to wear a push-up bra and lace top slip). With only two days left before the party - I wore the larger dress.

Those who know me personally are aware that I wear my hair naturally. Due to the rainy weather and the theme - I decided to buy a wig to fit with the 1920's theme. When my son saw me in the full outfit - he didn't recognize me (no glasses and a longer, straight hair).

I showed this picture to my mom and she had to do a double-take!

I didn't like the dress on me - but it worked out for the event. I spent $90 ($60 + $30 S/H) for a dress that I'll probably never wear again.
